Where’s Your Headshot At? | Business, Personal Branding & Family Photographer in Aberdeen and Angus

Updated: Mar 16, 2019

What is the difference between a Headshot and Personal Branding Experience?

So have I got you all confused about headshots and personal branding chat?

What is the difference?

One gives you professional portraits and the other - same?

Same-ish!

In short - both give you photos of YOU - the person behind the business, the person representing the professional.

But while headshots are normally pretty straightforward, showing just your face, Personal Branding goes deeper, showing more of You and what you do.

For example, recently I photographed Kim of the OddHogg Blog. As well as photographing her lovely face, we focused on the things that visually represented her.

We agreed that the session would need to take place in a ‘realistic’ setting and her choice of wardrobe would not be too far removed from what she would wear on a regular day at work.

Whenever I think of her vlogs, I remember her bright lipsticks, so she obviously had it on for the shoot!

We also took images of her work environment, which is a welcome insight for those that know her through her writing or Virtual Assistant assignments.

A while ago I also worked with Siobhan @ The House, who is a brilliant hair stylist and while her session took place practically at her work station, we focused mostly on capturing headshot portraits of her to be used on her business’ Facebook page.

Headshot - the head, Personal Branding - the soul, if this turn of phrase is your kind of thing!

So if you are trying to decide, which is for you, it probably depends on the level of online presence you have (professionally).

If all you want is to update your LinkedIn profile and the office badge, then a headshot would definitely fill the need.

If you have a blog or regularly post content on Facebook, Instagram or any other platforms and your brand is, essentially, you, then a personal branding experience session is definitely something worth considering.

As you may have noticed, for the past couple of months I have been shining a spotlight on some fellow artists around the world and here, I'd like to do so once again.

This time, the wonderfully talented Annika Bloch - Child Photography in West London shares a gorgeous studio session with a brilliant young man - look out for the multiple exposure styled frame, it was my favourite!

I might have to make a trip to Scotland to see you and have a branding session.

I was actually just asked by someone about the difference between a headshot and personal branding. I couldn't explain it half as well as you. And I absolutely love your images!
